The Best of Burgundy and Bordeaux Tour 2006
Day 1—Our
adventure together begins when we meet at our Bordeaux hotel. You will
have time to freshen up and then we will go for our “Welcome Dinner” at
a local Bordeaux restaurant. D
Day 2—After breakfast, we head off on an excursion to the Atlantic coast. You’ll see (and climb, if desired) the highest sand dune in Europe. Enjoy the magnificent view of forest on one side and water on the other. Then we will visit Arcachon, a seaside resort, where you will have time to shop and have lunch before boarding a small boat to see the oyster farms and participate in an oyster tasting, of course including a little wine. We will return to our hotel in Bordeaux for the evening. B Day
3—Start your day with breakfast, then enjoy the morning at your
leisure, taking in the sights of Bordeaux. We will check out of our
hotel and transfer to a chateau in the countryside of Bordeaux, where
you can take a swim in the pool or just relax before our cooking class
and dinner at the chateau. B, DDay 4—Enjoy breakfast by the pool or in the lovely glassed breakfast room of the chateau. Today we will visit Pomerol and St. Emilion, home of Merlot-based Bordeaux wines. We will enjoy wine tasting at a quaint wineries where you may even get to barrel sample, tasting the influence different woods have on wine. In St. Emilion, you will tour an underground church and visit a wine shop with its collectable wines. We will return to the chateau for a tour of the owner’s private cellar and wine collection and a wine tasting. B,D Day 5—Enjoy a fulfilling breakfast before we head off to the Medoc region of Bordeaux. Here you will taste wines that are Cabernet-based and you’ll learn how wines from this area, so close in proximity to St. Emilion, can be so different. After a full day of wine tasting, we’ll return to the chateau for our remembrance dinner, a five-course meal paired with wines from Bordeaux. B,D Day
6—Today we transfer via the TGV (the “bullet” train) to Paris, where
we will be met by our host for the remainder of the trip. Didier will
meet us and take us to Burgundy. On our way to Burgundy, we will stop
and visit the magnificent Chateau de Vaux le Vicomte, built in 1658.
Late in the afternoon, we will arrive at Domaine Brunot, where you can
settle in and enjoy the Brunot’s lovely countryside home or observe
Françoise as she personally prepares our evening meal. B, DDay 7—Enjoy your French breakfast in the garden before we head off for the day to tour Vezelay, a village founded in the 9th century. We will also visit the only winery in Burgundy to make the luscious melon wine. We will enjoy our dinner at Domaine Brunot, a chance for you to get to know our hosts more intimately and learn about life in Burgundy. B, D Day 8—Start your day with a delightful French breakfast at Domaine Brunot and then join the group for a visit to Chablis where you can taste wines from the grapes that made Chablis famous. A drive in the beautiful Chablis countryside with its rolling hills and lush vineyards will awe you. You will be surprised at a stop we make to taste sparkling wines. We will then visit the quaint village of Auxerre. Upon our return to Domaine Brunot, you are welcome to relax, go for a walk, or if you are really ambitious, Françoise can put you to work in her charming French kitchen. B,D Day 9—After breakfast at Domaine Brunot, the group will head off for a day in Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy. We will enjoy wine tasting from traditional taste de vin (wine tasting cups) while visiting an underground cellar. After a day of tasting in this land full of Pinot Noir (where you may discover one or two varietals unknown to you), we will return to Domaine Brunot where our hosts will treat us to a fabulous traditional Burgundy celebration to highlight our time in the Bourgogne wine country. B,D Day 10—Enjoy your final breakfast at Domaine Brunot before being transferred to the Paris airport for your trip home or to your Paris hotel for your extended stay. “Au revoir!” B
